From the Editor: Adventure Edition

Adventure Tourism, a word much heard, written and discussed about, has evolved immensely over the past decade. From what was supposedly confined to the knowledge of rafting and paragliding, Adventure Tourism has taken many shapes and forms over the years. Now in the age of backpackers and solo travellers, a time where people go off for months into the hills or seek calm beside the sea, Adventure sports is an itinerary de facto and every country has been making efforts to promote it in the best way possible.

But no matter how well it is promoted and no matter how many times we see funny and quirky posts on Facebook, when it comes to adventure the age old inhibition is still intact. Hence, this edition on Adventure Tourism!

The first problem in queue for our team was to justify the theme. ‘How’ and ‘why’ were the first to posts that we had to conquer. And then following it was “With whom?”. Firstly, the information had to be authentic. And not a ‘Chinese-restaurant-in-Italy’ authentic but The Most genuine our readers would have ever seen or read. Secondly, it had to involve the real people, people who are out there doing that adventure sport right now! Rather than some who have a good opinion about it. Third, how in our right minds were we ever going to put it all in one issue? We realised that we needed the best of both worlds, the tourism boards and associations and the travellers. We wanted  it all and we knew it was not going to be easy.

What I can vouch for is that, genuinity sells more than any glorious and statistically backed idea. Yes, as surprising as it sounds, it is true! The fact that we genuinely wanted a genuine edition on Adventure Tourism is what helped us getting connected with Adventure Ecotourism Quebec and then rest is history.

This new edition, which comes alongside a new website, is definitely more bifurcated yet simplified yet liberating. And that is the beauty of it!

The backstage stories are one-on-one discussions with the tourism boards on various parameters that Adventure Tourists, as well as Industry Contributors like us ponder upon. Travelogues are, poetically speaking, few pages from our travellers’ diaries. Their experience and emotions and their reason for being an Adventure Traveler laid down for our readers.

A travel directory or a lifestyle magazine, we gladly let you decipher this edition in whichever form you want to. The aim is to please!

Till the next issue, Happy Wandering!
